Frequently asked questions

Starting a business involves numerous questions about taxes. At Hall's Tax Incorporated, we're here to provide the answers you need. We electronically file taxes for individuals and businesses nationwide, ensuring accuracy and peace of mind. Here are some frequently asked questions to help you understand the process better:

1. What documents do I need to bring for tax preparation?

You should bring: W-2s for every job you had, 1099 forms, statements of other income, records of deductions (like mortgage interest, tuition, medical expenses), and Social Security numbers for you and your dependents.

2. Do you prepare both personal and business tax returns?

Yes — we prepare individual, business, self-employed, and complex returns. (You can list specifics here based on what your dad offers, e.g., Schedule C, corporate returns, etc.)

3. What is electronic filing (e-file) and why is it better?

Electronic filing means sending your return to the IRS online instead of on paper. It’s faster, more accurate, and usually gets you your refund sooner than mailing in a paper return.

4. How soon can I get my tax refund?

For most electronically filed returns with direct deposit, refunds are typically issued in about 21 days after acceptance by the IRS. Paper returns often take much longer.

5. How can I track my refund?

You can check your refund status using the IRS’s Where’s My Refund? tool on IRS.gov — usually 24 hours after e-file acceptance.

6. Can you help with state tax returns too?

Yes! We can prepare both your federal and state tax returns (include which states or state rules you offer, if applicable).

7. What happens if the IRS needs more information or flags something?

Sometimes the IRS needs extra verification or review — this can delay your refund. If that happens, we help you respond and make sure it’s handled correctly.

8. Can I split my refund?

Yes — you can often split your refund into up to 3 accounts (checking, savings, etc.) so part goes where you want immediately and part into savings.

9. What if I’m self-employed or have special income (like 1099 income)?

Bring all income records and expense receipts — we’ll make sure your self-employment income and deductions are properly reported and maximize your refunds/credits.

10. How do I know you’re experienced?

With over 64 years of combined experience, we’ve seen every kind of return — simple to complex — and can guide you through deductions, credits, and planning for next year.

11. What deductions or credits might I qualify for?

People often qualify for things like the Child Tax Credit, education credits, retirement contributions, medical deductions, and more — we review everything to get you the best outcome.

12. Do I need all my receipts and paperwork?

Yes — the more detailed your documents (income records, expense receipts, etc.), the more accurate your tax return and refund you’ll get.

13. Can you amend my taxes if I made a mistake?

Absolutely — if you need to correct a past return, we can help prepare an amended return and guide you through the process. (Not directly from IRS, but common practice among pros.)
